Bharat Forge wins $155 million export order for 155mm artillery platform

In a bid to stimulate the private sector in defense manufacturing, Bharat Forge placed an export order worth $155 million for a 155mm artillery platform. The company, however, did not name the customer.

A statement from the defense maker on Wednesday said its subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd had secured the order. The order is for a ‘non-conflict zone’ and that it is a ‘great testimony’ to the government’s ‘Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat’ (self-governing India) program and its sustained efforts to promote exports of locally designed, developed and manufactured (IDDM) products of India’s advanced defense platforms,” the company said.

The Ministry of Defense has set a revenue target of $25 billion (Rs 1.75 lakh crore) in defense manufacturing over the next five years, which included an export target of 5 billion dollars (Rs 35,000 crore) of military equipment. In recent years, the government has taken a series of measures to promote national defense production.

Bharat Forge has expertise in the design, development, engineering and manufacturing of space systems and subsystems for artillery guns, armored fighting vehicles, protected vehicles, munitions, defense and small arms, among others.

Last month, Bharat Forge Ltd signed an agreement with US tech giant General Atomics to collaborate in the development of a lithium-ion battery system for use by the Indian Navy.
