British Coyote TSV will receive M119 Hawkeye 105mm artillery

LONDON, ($1 = 0.81 Pounds) — The British Ministry of Defense plans to equip its Coyote tactical support vehicles [TSV] with artillery guns to further increase its firepower. Sources say that the new artillery gun for the Coyote TSV will most likely be the American M119 Hawkeye 105mm howitzer.

In its current version, the Coyote TSV is equipped with light machine guns and anti-tank guns. However, the increase in firepower is a consequence of the British experience in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, as well as recent events in Europe – the war between Russia and Ukraine. Coyote TSV fights in Ukraine using integrated anti-tank weapons.

A British Ministry of Defense source notes that British soldiers noticed the need for powerful artillery mounted on the Coyote TSV on the battlefields in Syria. Experts say that London had its inventory of 105 mm artillery gun – L118 light gun, but it is not suitable for the Coyote TSV, because it has a serious range and despite its name “light gun” has a lot of weight.

The most suitable option, according to English analysts, is to use the American M119 Hawkeye 105mm towed howitzer. The M119 Hawkeye is a modular howitzer and can therefore be integrated into a variety of vehicles. The M119 Hawkeye also uses a wide range of ammunition, such as the M1 high-explosive rounds, M913 high-explosive missiles and M314 glow star rounds, which are in service in the UK. Finally, the M119 Hawkeye has an increased range of almost 14 km and can fire six artillery shells in one minute.

Tests are coming, says a senior UK Ministry of Defense official. They will respond to how quickly the British Army can increase the firepower of the Coyote TSV, as well as how long it will take for the new combat configuration to enter service. It will be limited, but it is assumed that within two years [until 2024] Britain will have a battle group consisting of Coyote TSVs and 105mm artillery guns.

Coyote SVT

Coyote TSV is based on the British Jackal TSV or Mobility Weapon-Mounted Installation Kit [MWMIK] as it is called in some circles. One of the main differences between the two vehicles is that the Jackal TSV is on a 4×4 chassis, while the Coyote TSV is a 6×6 based on Supacat’s HMT 600 6×6.

In addition to the anti-tank guns, the Coyote TSV can be integrated with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, or Heckler & Koch GMG, as well as a 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun. The Coyote TSV can carry a payload of up to 3.8 tonnes.
