CAESAR 155mm artillery tries to conquer the Malaysian market

KUALA LUMPUR, ($1 = 4.21 Malaysian ringgits) — The French 155 mm wheeled howitzer CAESAR will try to conquer the Malaysian market and become the main artillery of the Malaysian ground forces, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing information from the Belgian online portal Army Recognition.

The Malaysian company Advanced Defense Systems (ADS) and the French manufacturer Nexter Systems are hoping for future deliveries. The two companies have already signed a memorandum of understanding at the international defense and security trade fair DSA 2022, the Belgians indicate.

ADS has a strong position in Malaysia and hopes to work with the French company to ensure better innovation in the Malaysian company’s artillery systems.

Malaysia is not Nexter Systems’ only target. As BulgarianMilitary.com reported in February, the French are looking to the Middle East and trying to sell their product to the Iraqi government. The odds are high after it becomes clear that Baghdad prefers Nexter’s 155mm CAESAR.

Caesar 155mm self-propelled howitzer

As we have already written, the 155 mm self-propelled howitzer Caesar from the French group Nexter is developed in two variants of the chassis – 6×6 and 8×8. The howitzer is extremely mobile and with a single tank the charge can travel just over 600 km at an average speed of 50 km/h. The maximum speed of the howitzer is 80 km / h.

The cabin is armored with STANAG 4569 level 2 overprotection. The whole howitzer in combat deployment weighs just over 18 tons, is 10 meters long and almost four meters high. In addition to the gun and the chassis, the French system has an autonomous weapon system, an inertial navigation unit, an initial velocity radar, a ballistic computer and the ability to interact with any C4I system.

The main gun is a 155mm/52 mud artillery capable of firing up to 6 shells in a minute. The maximum range is 4.5-40 km, but with the help of jet shells the range can be increased to 50 km.

The howitzer has a semi-automatic system of automatic loading, aiming and redirection of the weapon system. Works with all types of NATO or ERFB standard 39/52 mud ammunition, as well as smart ammunition. The howitzer unfolds in 60 seconds and the crew consists of 4-5 people.

The Caesar 155mm self-propelled howitzer participated in various French missions in Afghanistan, Lebanon, Mali and Iraq. It can be transported by C-130 / A400 / IL76 / C-17 aircraft, as well as parachuted by them.
