MOSCOW (UrduPoint News/Sputnik – September 28, 2022) Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called on the European Union, NATO and G7 countries to impose more sanctions on Russia and step up military support for the Ukraine, by providing tanks and long-range artillery missiles.
“Ukraine calls on the EU, NATO and the Group of Seven to immediately and significantly increase pressure on Russia, including by imposing tough new sanctions, and to significantly increase their military aid to Ukraine, including providing us with tanks, fighter jets, armored vehicles, long-range artillery, anti-aircraft equipment and missile defense,” the ministry said.
Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked in his pre-recorded speech to the United Nations General Assembly for additional long-range defensive and offensive military equipment.
On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine in response to calls for help from the separatist republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. Western countries responded by imposing comprehensive sanctions on Moscow while increasing their military support for kyiv.
In April, Russia sent a note to NATO member states condemning their military assistance to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that any arms deliveries into Ukrainian territory will be “legitimate targets” for Russian forces.
