Red decks in the Magic: The Gathering The Historic and Alchemy formats get a solid update via the Neon Dynasty: A22 Artillery Amateur spoiler.
the Kamigawa: The Neon Dynasty modified mechanic did not have a huge impact on competitive viability MTG bridges. But the Neon Dynasty: A22 Artillery Enthusiast spoiler, revealed by TheOneJame today could change that. The Goblin Artificer also provides value through the numerical-only research mechanic, synergizing with decks that want to get rid of cards from the hand.
- Type: Creature — Goblin Artificer
- Scarcity: Uncommon
- Static capacity: Supported creatures you control have Menace
- ETB capacity: When Artillery Enthusiast enters the battlefield, you may discard a card. If you do, search for a card with mana value equal to this card’s mana value.
Seeking is a MTG digital-only mechanic that chooses a random card from your deck and puts it into your hand. In a specific build, like Madness in Historic, Goblin Artificer will provide gas at all stages of a match. Providing Menace to all modified creatures is also powerful, especially in a MTG deck that has low cost, low stat creatures.
The downside to Artillery Enthusiast is that it’s a 1/1 that can easily be removed from the battlefield, putting a thorn in Modification decks that rely on it. Seek can also have its downsides, especially if the chosen random map isn’t what you need at that particular moment.
Players can experience Artillery Enthusiast on March 17 with the release of Neon Dynasty: A22 via MTG Arena.
