Ukrainians began training on M142 HIMARS artillery

WASHINGTON – Ukraine will receive the long-awaited 227mm HIMARS artillery weapon systems from the United States, and sources say that the first Ukrainian gunners are already training on the HIMARS system at an unknown location outside the country. BulgarianMilitary.com can only assume that this is most likely Poland, as in recent weeks various sources have sent Ukrainians there to train on various weapon systems.

HIMARS training is currently underway, according to a senior US defense official, and this information was provided by ABC reporter Matt Seyler. “American coaches are working with Ukrainians at an undisclosed location outside the country. The first training cycle should last about 3 weeks, said Seyler on Twitter.

Ukraine will receive four HIMARS systems. Defense Blog reports that they have most likely already been located in Europe. There is logic in this statement because since the beginning of the war, the supply of weapon systems already deployed in Europe has been a strong chain of the established network of military supplies to Ukraine.

In addition to receiving HIMARS, the Ukrainians will use 227 mm artillery shells, they will also receive increased destruction range. 155 mm howitzers, which constantly arrive in Ukraine from different countries, have a range of about 30 km, while HIMARS is estimated to be twice as much.

The M142 HIMARS is mounted on a standard Army M1140 truck chassis. It is powered by a diesel engine which guarantees a top speed of 85 km/h [52.8 mph]. With a single refueling of the fuel tank, the system can travel just under 500 km.
